VIP-160 is able to perform SIP registration task toward the SIP proxy server for voice over IP applications. Meanwhile, the VIP-160 is able to perform the analog/digital signal conversions, which is same as the Cisco ATA186/188.

Peer-to-Peer Solution

VIP-160 is able to per form Peer-to-Peer (P2P) voice communication via SIP protocol without service provider. This makes the VIP-160 ideal for the end-users daily and SOHO voice communications. In the P2P application, the VIP-160 is able to play the role same as the Cisco ATA186/188.
